In general, marjoram is a multipurpose plant. It has digestive stimulating properties, promotes normal circulation, helps in liver and gallbladder diseases, reduces swelling of the nasal and upper respiratory mucus membranes, is known to reduce blood sugar levels, and is even reported to have strong anti-microbial properties.
Rudolf Steiner valued marjoram highly and describes its warming flavor, etheric oils and salts which are present in the leaves as having the following activity: "it has a particularly strong effect on the breathing activity of the inner organs... which finds expression in the sweat provoking effects of this herb.... marjoram leaves can work against upper respiratory congestions but on the other hand also against uterine weaknesses."
