Sinus Comp—General Info

Sinus Comp. is a supplement shown to be beneficial for:
  • Allergies; nasal, asthmatic and other allergies
  • Support of normal respiratory function
  • Congestion
  • Asthma

Ingredients

Bitter Orange:
We have chosen the bitter orange specifically because strong extractions of this citrus fruit are available. Bitter oranges have a significant amount of synephrine. There has been controversy recently about its synephrine content, considering the fact that the "m” isomer, called phenylephrine, is used in nasal decongestants, such as Neosynephrine, and to treat hypotension. This m-synephrine is a strong vasoconstrictor, which may raise blood pressure. A careful study of the patented form of bitter orange that we are using has shown that it contains only p-synephrine, a stable isomer of the synephrine alkaloid. It is not harmful to humans.

Nettle Leaf:
Nettles have long been known for their strong anti-allergic properties.

Quercetin:
Quercetin is a citrus derived bioflavonoid whose anti-allergic effects may be due to inhibition of the production of leukotrienes and prostaglandins, and inhibition of histamine release by basophils and mast cells. It might work similarly to cromolyn in patients with allergic rhinitis.

Forskolin:
Forskolin (coleus forskolii) is part of the Labiate family of lavender. Coleus is the only known natural source of a unique adenylate cyclase activating compound. Overall, it helps to enhance the production of compounds that relax the bronchial muscles by increasing cAMP, which in turn reduces inflammation, reduces blood pressure, acts as an antiglaucoma agent, has a positive inotropic action in the heart, and prevents platelet aggregation. In vitro studies have also demonstrated that Forskolin is able to promote the production of steroidal hormones in the rat adrenal cells. In sensitized guinea pigs, Forskolin was a hundred times more potent than theophylline. Clinical studies have shown that Forskolin leads to an inhibition of antigen induced histamine release from human basophil leukocytes. In asthmatic volunteers, it increased respiratory volume and reduced airway resistance.

Dosage and Administration
We generally recommend one capsule, three times daily; although we have used up to a six a day in larger patients. As maintenance, one to two capsules per day suffices.

For increased effects we have found the combination of Sinus Comp with Boswellia Comp to be particularly effective. Giving both formulations together interferes with several mechanisms of the allergic pathway.
