Elderberry-Thyme Syrup-General Info

Elderberry-Thyme Syrup can be used as a dietary supplement in the following conditions:
  1. Physical Problems:
    • Viral infections - colds, flus, etc., especially when accompanied by body aches, pains, fever and fatigue.
    • Cough - especially in the presence of dry coughs, tenacious mucous, inability to bring up sputum in chronic bronchitis and asthma.
    • Sore throat, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis.
    • Rheumatic conditions - especially when stiffness, swelling, and similar symptoms are in the presence of “metabolic syndrome,” e.g., high blood pressure, obesity, sugar imbalance.
    • Detoxification - particularly to promote easier sweating! It is also diuretic and laxative.
    • Tonic - due to rich content of potassium, Vitamin C, volatile oils, and bioflavonoids.
    • Current medical literature shows positive affects in ulcers caused by H.pylori, lowering lipids post-prandial, potentially anti-angiogenetic effects.
  2. Mental stresses:
    • When the feeling is present that the outer world crashes in on us, that we need more courage, that we are experiencing “sensory overload.” Also known to have mild sedative effects.
    • According to both R. Steiner, and other researchers, a flu can unmask other latent conditions in the body. Elderberry-Thyme Syrup is an ideal “preventative” help to strengthen the body, soul, and spirit such that latent illnesses are transformed into normal processes before they become pathologically manifested.

Ingredients–Modern Safety Data
Black Elderberry
Elderberry has been demonstrated to inhibit influenza viruses. The symptoms are reduced approximately 50%. Elderberry contains several flavonoids, rutin, isoquercetin, hyperosides, 3% tannins, and essential oils. The major protein of elder is a lectin. The anthocyanidins of elder have immune modulating and anti-inflammatory effects. Very important is the fact that elderberry seems to increase the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL’s and TNF alpha.
No adverse affects have been reported in studies with both adults and children. Theoretically, elderberries may interfere with immune suppressants, including herbals such as boswellia.
Thyme
The active ingredients of the thyme are known to be powerful antibacterial and antiviral agents. Decades ago several plant products were compared to phenol a known strong antiseptic. Thyme oil was found to be 8 times stronger.
Precisely for this reason, however, maximal daily quantities must be kept in mind to avoid toxicity. The PDR for Herbal Medicine, Third Edition, gives as a maximum safe dosage 10 grams of thyme powder with 0.003% phenol, calculated as thymol. Usual daily dosage is 1-2 grams per day, presumably for adults. The Elderberrry-Thyme Syrup at the maximum recommended dosage of 40 ml daily does not exceed the ultra safe dosage of 2g per day.
The thyme oil used here is a very pure super fluid extraction with natural CO2. The oil contains no solvent residues, no heavy metals, no microorganisms. 1kg of oil is extracted from 100kg of plant. Over 52% of the oil is thymol, the most active substance. The oil also contains carvacrol, borneol, linalool, carryophylline and flavonoid constituents which are responsible for the antispasmotic, antitussive and expectorant effects. This mechanism may involve calcium channel blockade. Analgesic and antipyretic effects have been reported. May exacerbate a urinary tract inflammation. No interaction with drugs known.
Do not use in pregnancy since it may induce menstruation.
Origanox® - is a patented marjoram extract with a high content level of rosmarinic acid used both for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant value. It is being discussed in other True Botanica literature more extensively.
Usnea - is a tree moss (usnea barbata). Usnea contains a variety of lichen acids including usnic acid, the principal ingredient here. The water soluble usnic acid present in the syrup has been obtained by supercritical fluid extraction with natural CO2. Usnic acids have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic, antifungal, antiviral, and antiprotozoal activity.
Xylitol - also known as birch sugar, since it is extracted from birchwood. It is commonly used to prevent carries and otitis media in children. Xylitol is found in almost all plant material, including fruits; such as raspberries, strawberries, and plums; vegetables; and mushrooms. In the body, it is produced during metabolism of glucose in the liver. It has half the caloric value of glucose. Xylitol has several properties that might provide a locally protective effect against dental caries. Xylitol is not fermented by plaque flora to the low pH associated with caries. Xylitol also reduces bacterial adhesiveness. Xylitol increases salivary flow rates and calcium and phosphate concentrations in saliva. In the prevention of acute otitis media, xylitol may work by inhibiting growth of bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae, and preventing adhesion of pneumococci and Haemophilus influenzae to nasopharyngeal cells There is also some preliminary evidence from animal models that suggests xylitol might increase the calcium and phosphorus content of bone and protect against osteoporosis.
